The first 12m offshore race boat designed by Rob Shaw, build by Craig Partridge Yachts.

Design Objective: to maximise the performance potential of a 12m offshore monohull, with the capacity to sleep a full crew and with a usable interior. This is a versatile boat, set up for high performance racing either short-handed or fully crewed, both harbour and offshore. Blink is built with racing in the infamous Cook Strait in mind, with robust construction and systems, foam core, and options chosen with the wisdom that 'to win you must first finish' in mind: twin rudders, twin hydraulic rams, and dual hydraulic keel power sources (electric and engine pumps).

These numbers are from before the extra 90kg added to bulb in 2019
Length: 12m / Sailing Displ: 4.1T (8 crew) / Empty Displ 3.6T / Draft: 3m / Keel Cant Angle: 50° / RM (max): 7,687 kg/m / Mast: 19.8m

Interior painting done

Pics from last week.

Cutout in top of bench for Waeco fridge, other cutouts including the big one nearest to the camera for access to keel hydraulics etc.  That's Craig's wife Leigh doing a great job of accessorising the lovely interior finish.

Carbon twill bulkhead, has ended up being our 'feature wall'.  Works very well with front cabin black walls and white floor.  There's more carbon twill on the way too, eg door to heads.

Just cut off at the left side of the pic is the stbd speaker box enclosure, these are staying as black clear-coated carbon.   Companionway steps looking even more rustic now.

Stbd quarterberth, just enough white in here for decent visibility in poor light, but should be dark enough for sleeping when off-watch.

stbd chart table area, and heads interior (no door yet).

Progress pics from Craig

Interior painting is well underway, undercoat looks like it's done.  Under the brown paper, being protected from spray etc, is a new and apparently stunning layer of glossy carbon twill.

I still think we might need to upgrade the companionway steps, look a bit too rustic, don't fit with the overall theme of the boat.

First rudder is in ...

And final shape for the instrument pods that mount on the top of the steering pedestals.  There will be an NXR control on each side (larger of the covers, on the left here), stbd will have an additional small Nexus display (autopilot control) and port will have some kind of wind display, yet to be decided.

Hydraulic pumps

This is the 24V DC-powered hydraulic pump, good for a ~32 second cant time (full trip from all the way out on one side to all the way out on the other) without engine running.  The (modified for this boat) reservoir has the pump itself set up inside the reservoir, the black column on the left is the DC motor.  Sight glass on the right.

This is the engine-driven ('clutched') pump, good for a full cant time of ~15s with engine running.

Deck Gear Layout

Grant Blewett from Harken and Rob were on the boat a couple of days ago fine-tuning the deck gear layout before the deck is painted.  Pics of traveller/mainsheet system:

Heavy Metal

Keel bulb, rams and keel steel have arrived in Kerikeri.  That's a fast-looking bulb.

... once again the scale problem in photos pops up -  the keel looks small, but it's nearly 3 metres long,  that's a pallet underneath it, and the rams aren't tiny either

The big cook up

From memory, 60 degrees for 36 hours.  I could have that wrong - but Craig won't.

Oven walls are panels, built into an enclosure around the boat
